Vijayanagar
Ex reino hindú del sur de India, situado al sur del río Krishna.

Fundado en 1336 por líderes del pueblo kanara, llegó a ser el mayor imperio de la India meridional y durante más de dos siglos sirvió de barrera contra los invasores musulmanes del norte. Fue un importante centro de la cultura brahmán y del arte drávida. Su caída comenzó con la derrota de Talikota (1565) a manos de una confederación de sultanes musulmanes del Decán; el imperio se disolvió 1614. La capital del reino, Vijayanagar, fue destruida en 1565. Sus ruinas se encuentran en la actual Hampi, en el sudeste del estado de Karnataka
